In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, just where they should beat a pulse of algae and corals, plastic growing tumor the size of an entire continent, to which humanity solely responsible for its existence - do not try to brake. I admit that I, human among humans, he had never heard of this so-called Trash Vortex that (like so many other things in my life) I have peered for the first time through art. Last Monday I attended the opening of the exhibition "Vortex" of Daniel Canogar organized by the Fundacion Canal in his room in the Plaza de Castilla. Beyond the green reflection, according to both the labels and prayed brochures, was the starting point of the series is now presented in Madrid, and has given me much to think about these last days, I returned the exhibits the best contemporary art, to that which, either linked to their time-and they said the artists of the Viennese Secession: "Every time his art and to art its freedom" - combines the concept, technique and aesthetics perfect doses.
Since I knew his work for the first time when I was taking my first steps in criticism of art, this caste artist whose name is synonymous with art-her father, Rafael Canogar , is one of the artists of Grupo El Paso who introduced abstract in Spain, and his brother Diego Canogar is a sculptor - caught my interest and, gradually, also my enthusiasm. Works like palimpsest or different versions of Pneuma, as well as many others whose titles I can not remember, seem to me poetic, fragile and music, with an inner harmony that is strengthened in its capacity as ephemeral works, and video-installations that are removed once they lose their status and complete work, when they are rebuilt, never again be the same work. 
But I will return to "Vortex." Open the photo shows the huge mural that gives the title, posted above, nearly twelve feet high and about six and a half wide, and after he awaits another photo, this time mounted light box, that explores the same theme: trail trash as humanity leaves behind and infects the water should be a source of life. Then you hear the sound of water: is the rumor that flows from Flow, the facility more like a child, getting hold of looks, comments and photo flashes: a review of the classic Marcel Duchamp's Fountain (1917), Canogar has assembled several pieces of toilet collected from a recycling of the city forming a source for the real water flowing and floating in it, the thumbnail image of men, women, children and girls who try to swim and resist the vortex of sinks to be relentlessly absorbed by the pipes. Of the three remaining facilities - pressure, drift and Tagus, is the latter that I liked. 180 bottles of different sizes is also a garbage collected and suspended from the ceiling and floor of the room and ordered plastic wall of water, on which nearly twenty Projector turned their bright graphics, silhouettes and colors. Quite a suggestive shadows dance and melodic whose origins lie in something as prosaic as the water consumption reflected in the statistics of the Tagus River Basin over water consumption in Madrid during the last 180 days.
